1st Harpenden (Methodist) Scout Group

Beavers (6 - 8 years) meet on a Thursday 5.15 to 6.15 pm and it is a good way to introduce boys and girls of this age to the scout movement; their motto is Fun and Friends. They play games and have lots of challenges, such as a Skipathon for the British Heart Foundation, seeing who can grow the biggest sunflower and generally start to learn to look after themselves. They have joined with other Beavers in the District to sponsor a Beaver Colony in Ghana.

Cubs (8 - 10 1/2 years
) meet in two mixed packs, one on a Monday 6.30 - 8.00 pm and Tuesday 6.45 - 8.15 pm. They progress through an award system including interest badges and enjoy the challenge of seeing how many they can sew onto their sweaters. Camping also plays a great part in the cub programme where they can learn how to put up tents, go on night hikes, learn to canoe, abseil and cook on fires; not forgetting the camp fire when songs are learned and remembered all their lives.

Scouts (10 1/2 - 15 1/2 years) meet on a Thursday night from 7.15 - 9.00 pm. There are approximately 40 boys and girls led by three warranted male leaders and a non warranted female leader. They carry out a variety of activities - as a troop, in patrols, in smaller groups and individually. Recently four of our scouts completed the Chief Scout Award.
